Description:

The Vivitar PS220 is a point and shoot camera featuring a 35mm focus-free lens and a built-in automatic flash, released in 1996.

Originally named ‘Ponder and Best’, Vivitar was a photographic equipment retailer founded in 1938 by Max Ponder and John Best. The two were instrumental in the introduction of many popular Japanese brands in the western market, including Mamiya/Sekor, Olympus and Kobena 8mm movie cameras.

In the early 1960’s the two created the ‘Vivitar’ brand to compete with other major lens manufacturers, commissioning experienced lens designers and reputable Japanese optical lens manufacturers to produce their own designs. After the success of it’s lens lin, the Vivitar company later introduced it’s own line of 35mm film cameras manufactured by Japanese companies such as Cosina.
